Lincoln Aviator: Handles, Locks, Latches and Entry Systems / Removal and Installation - Front Door Latch

Removal

NOTE: LH (left-hand) side shown, RH (right-hand) side similar.

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

All vehicles

  1. NOTE: The PMI process must begin with the current door latch control module installed. If the current door latch control module does not respond to the diagnostic scan tool, the tool may prompt for As-Built Data as part of the repair.

    Using a diagnostic scan tool, begin the PMI process for the door latch control module following the on-screen instructions.
  1. Remove the aft front door glass run and bracket.
    Refer to: Front Door Glass Run and Bracket (501-11 Glass, Frames and Mechanisms, Removal and Installation).

Driver door

  1. Remove the fore front door glass run and bracket.
    Refer to: Front Door Glass Run and Bracket (501-11 Glass, Frames and Mechanisms, Removal and Installation).
  1. Position the exterior mirror wiring harness and grommet aside.

  1. Disconnect the door lock cylinder cable assembly.
    1. Pull back the door lock cylinder cable assembly from the door lock cylinder.
    1. Turn the door lock cylinder cable assembly counter clockwise, disconnect the door lock cylinder cable assembly from the door lock cylinder.

All vehicles

  1. Remove front door latch bolts.
    Torque: 106 lb.in (12 Nm)
  1. NOTE: Front door shown transparent for clarity.


    Disconnect the front door latch electrical connectors and position the wiring harness aside.
    1. Disconnect the front door latch electrical connector.
    1. Release the front door wiring harness routing clips and position the wiring harness aside.

Vehicles without power cinch

  1. NOTE: Front door shown transparent for clarity.


    Remove front door latch assembly.
    1. If equipped.
      Route the front door latch emergency release cable through the door opening.
    1. Release the front door lock cylinder cable routing clips
    1. Remove front door latch assembly.

Vehicles with power cinch

  1. Disconnect the rear door latch cinch motor electrical connector and position the wiring harness aside.

  1. Remove the front door latch cinch motor bolt and nuts.
    1. Remove the front door latch cinch motor nuts.
      Torque: 48 lb.in (5.4 Nm)
    1. Remove the front door latch cinch motor bolt.
      Torque: 48 lb.in (5.4 Nm)
  1. NOTE: Front door shown transparent for clarity.


    Remove front door latch assembly.
    1. If equipped.
      Route the front door latch emergency release cable through the door opening.
    1. Release the front door lock cylinder cable routing clips
    1. Remove front door latch assembly.

Installation

  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  1. Using a diagnostic scan tool, complete the PMI process for the following the door latch control module on-screen instructions
  1. Carry out the power door window initialization.
    Refer to: Power Door Window Initialization (501-11 Glass, Frames and Mechanisms, General Procedures).

    Seatbelt Height Adjustment

    WARNING: Position the seatbelt height adjuster so that the seatbelt rests across the middle of your shoulder. Failure to adjust the seatbelt correctly could reduce its effectiveness and increase the risk of injury in a crash.

    Adjust the height of the shoulder belt so the belt rests across the middle of your shoulder. Slide the adjuster up to raise the belt. Press the button and slide it down to lower the belt.
